    Tea and Biscuit: Rescue story

    Monday, March 28th, 2011

It all started on a quiet Saturday afternoon with my sister and I heading out for breakfast at  a place called Jalan Kayu for Roti Prata. When we parked the car, my sister spotted two kittens and an unfortunately dead cat nearby. Given how one of them looked like it was limping and that it was a busy car park, my sister rushed back to the car to grab some towels and a large paper bag, meanwhile I set off to see if I could find some food to lure them out from hiding under a car.

By the time I returned though my sister was struggling to wrangle two kittens. It turns out that several kind passer-bys helped to lure them out, even the driver of the car they were hiding under helped to crawl under to take them out :) We then made a quick trip down to Mutts N Mittens where Cohen advised us to make a trip down to the vet.

We made our way down to Mt Pleasant Animal hospital to see the vet..meanwhile the two kittens had settled down in the carrier we borrowed.

Dr Choi after seeing the leg wanted an x-ray to be done. We tried to comfort them while waiting for the tech to prep the room

The results of the x-ray were quite horrifying.

Dr. Choi noted that the bones were already starting to heal and that a splint would be useless given that the bones do not even contact each other. Also reconstructive surgery would introduce more risks than potential benefits. The only two viable options were amputation or to let it heal on its own. He suggested to draw a blood/fluid smaple from the injury site to check for any signs of infection to see if it was safe to leave it

Thankfully there was none but the kitten did put up a lot of protest =p

While on the way back to the shelter my sister decided to call them Tea and Biscuit. I was supposed to see them again on Sunday but fate seems to have a sense of humor and gave me a bad sprain on my right ankle so i could better sympathize with how Tea (the one with the broken leg) was feeling.

I finally managed to catch up with them on Saturday (26/03/2011) and boy have they blossomed under the shelter’s care! (Tea is on the left)

    two ginger and white kittens

This is Biscuit, initially quite timid but still very sociable once she warms up

She has the most mesmerizing eyes…

And little Tea.. he is quite a fighter..

He also has that same wistful gaze of his sister.

You can kinda see how bad the leg is from how he sits.

Still this didn’t stop them from playing up a storm.. it starts like some bad gang movie.. first a little provocation (Tea on left)

    The inital retaliation *Shove*

    Then posturing..

    Then the exchange of blows..

    Then the theatrics start.

    Biscuit does several speactacular pounces..

And successfully manages to get Tea

Mean while Tea tries to fight back while lying down..

But Biscuit seems too agile :D

It ended up as a weastling match..

Which Biscuit won though a submission =p

I hope you have enjoyed the images of these two kitties who are given a chance of a better life :) .  The day I went down to shoot this series, the shelter gave me the good new that Biscuit has already found her new home !

However Tea is still looking for a home that can help take care of his injured leg more (though he seems just as fast on three!) So do contact Mutts N Mittens if you can spare a place in your home for him!

*edit* Tea has been adopted :) ) One last pic of him taken recently :D

Mutts N Mittens: Adoption Drive and Flea Market

    Friday, March 18th, 2011

Last Sunday I was at Mutts and Mittens to help photograph their adoption drive along with CWS and HRSS. This is going to be a very image intensive post so bear with me :)

Yellow and Nerus having a Father/adopted son moment with Nerus annoying the heck out of him.

Boy (left) and Twiggy getting excited about meeting more people/potential adopters

Volunteers getting a brief from one of the more experienced adopters

    Setting up stalls..

Notice how Yellow is paying alot of attention to the Ice Cream sellers :D

The crowd was good that day with a good flow of people in and out..

The three “chief adopterers”  sorting though the applications.

The Ice cream from Scoop and Shake was sold out too!

Even Spud (a short term boarding resident) got to enjoy some :D

Yellow, being the food motivated lab that he his, will never let you eat your lunch in peace =p

Colleen, one of the volunteer photogs there had a little surpise birthday too! (she says she is still 1 =p )

There were simply too many cats/dogs to photograph that day so here are a few highlights :D

These few cats were rescued by the Cat Welfare Society (CWS) from a hoarder. They were sevrely under nourished but under thier care have recovered nicely!

This pretty girl was rescued from the area near Elias Mall

Had some fun shooting this fiesty lot (look at those claws)..

We end off with this ridiculously cute puppy called Beatus. He was rescued from a construction site and has 6 siblings also looking for homes!

If you wanna see more do check out the full set over on flickr :) or at the Facebook Album

    Love Kuching: More Meows

    Sunday, March 6th, 2011

You may have already read the earlier post on the Love Kuching adoptable cats.  New here are a few of their own resident felines and a pair that have found a forever home!

First are are the feisty pair of Wine (red tabby) and Seven (silver tabby) who have been successfully adopted!

They play quite roughly together and Wine seems to be the more outgoing one…

But once alone she becomes a little more reserved..

    Practicing her future ROAR :D

Seven is just as curious and cute as ever :D

Next up are the resident cats.

    Slinky, their founding member.

Sayang, the mascot who likes to lie down on top of the cat tree

Scooter, who was kinda grouchy=p used to take care of the new kittens

Sealy (aka gong gong) the Siamese with a delayed reaction time :D

Messing with your perception is one of his many talents as well!

Yes he maybe a little awkward,

There is no denying he is a handsome fella!
