“Our Kuching : the Vanishing Street Cats of Singapore” is a book of stray cat photos compiled by Jon Boon, capturing the beauty of the street cats of Singapore. I have been invited to give a short talk at the book launch and decided it would be a good challenge if I could squeeze enough information about shooting cats into a 20 minute talk. I will be sharing some ‘tricks’ used to caputre images like

Mutts N Mittens: Adoption Drive and Flea Market

Last Sunday I was at Mutts and Mittens to help photograph their adoption drive along with CWS and HRSS. This is going to be a very image intensive post so bear with me

The crowd was good that day with a good flow of people in and out..

Even Spud (a short term boarding resident) got to enjoy some

Colleen, one of the volunteer photogs there had a little surpise birthday too! (she says she is still 1 =p )

There were simply too many cats/dogs to photograph that day so here are a few highlights

These few cats were rescued by the Cat Welfare Society (CWS) from a hoarder. They were sevrely under nourished but under thier care have recovered nicely!

This pretty girl was rescued from the area near Elias Mall

Had some fun shooting this fiesty lot (look at those claws)..

We end off with this ridiculously cute puppy called Beatus. He was rescued from a construction site and has 6 siblings also looking for homes!

CWS flea market: Cats for adotpion

I was helping out at a flea market where the beneficiary was the Cat Welfare Society (CWS). Besides the many clothes and knick-knacks on sale, CWS had a booth where they had some cats up for adoption. The pet photographer in me could not resist snapping up these cuties

Dukaki Party 2010

Ever attended a cat party? Well this was my first one and it happened to be the party of the very awesome Duke Orange. He is a celebrity in the social media space with a twitter account, facebook page, tumblr blog and even a formspring account to cater to questions about his Bao (steamed bun) obsessions. During the lead up to his party, he invited his fans (aka Dukaki which means duke’s kaki’s where kaki means follower) to donate to the Cat Welfare’s Society’s (CWS)Spay day fund. The reason why was because Duke was found via CWS

The pre-event donations hit $1.7k!. Their ears are tipped to show that they have been sterilized There was also some fund raisers and auctions during the event , we are still awaiting for duke to announce the amounts!

Prince and Coco’s Pawty

I was invited to Prince and Coco’s Pawty about 2 weeks ago and got to spend a lovely relaxing afternoon with Jazz, her pack and lots of other dogs! having about 15 shelties in a single location can certainly be quite a mess but given how they are all obedience trained it was not so bad. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Dogs Day Out @ Cafe Del Mar

The reason I left the dog walk early was to hang around with Ozzy, Bear and Bruno at Cafe Del Mar for their Pooch Day Out! Luckily the rain had already let up and with the cloud cover it was not too hot for the dogs.

Ozzy did a few short swims…

While the two big ones had lots of fun fetching the balls.

Back on dry land it was time to shower and rinse off the sand

We also met Kendra Kua a guide dog! Here she is sitting camly while getting her hair done

Also present was Joseph from Lei Ces, who does Schutzhund Training. He had some GSD puppies and they were too cute to resist photographing.

National Dog Walk 2010

The day didn’t begin very well with me waking up to a moderate drizzle, nonetheless it’s hard to keep me away from all those dogs who were going to be at the National Dog Walk 2010. I only stayed for the morning programe though, as I was going out for another event after lunch. Still, it was more than enough time to meet many new furry friends!

First up Rosie the therapy dog.

Then there was Ubin the dog whose foot was trapped in a boar trap. Sadly it had to be amputated but he has bounced back tremendously! Rescued and now in a loving home!

Of course some dogs choose not to walk..

but to talk instead

Romeo and Juliet

Not quite the love affair you would have predicted here. This party was for Romeo celebrating his second human year of life and for Juliet’s homecoming! While Romeo took an instant liking to the very young Juliet, she was not the shy demure kind and I think he learned that she was not to be taken advantage of

On the left we have romeo.. and on the right… Juliet!

I so love this sign.

Given its a dog party theres bound to be lots of sniffing and greeting.

While there was no music some guests still danced..

And the food smelled AWESOME.. quite so to this fella

SKC Dog Show Jan 2010

I was glad to be given the chance to cover the first dog show of the year(180th since it started) organized by the Singapore Kennel Club! Call it a beauty pageant for dogs but its the one place you will get to see all kinds of dog breeds. In between covering the ring action i decided to sneak in a few candids as and when i could

Pups @ the Party

I was invited along to a small pre-xmas dinner gathering with some Noah’s Ark Volunteers. Needless to say when there is a gathering of people like that there are bound to be dogs as well. It so happened that the host was fostering 5 mongrel puppies which I spent way too much time trying to photograph instead of enjoying the food

Well puppies being puppies they play alot..

Once they settled down I managed to get a few snaps at last! Here we have September.

Its been a crazy weekend for me and I’m looking forward to the upcoming holidays! I’ll be making one more post before the break so stay tuned Hope this post helped satisfy your puppy cravings.
