Portrait: Trip and Chase

I had the opportunity to photograph the furry founders of Three Legs Good , Trip and Chase. Both were a little hesitant and shy towards human strangers at first but quickly ignored me once they had a ball to chase! Trip who did not look like she even lost a leg was up first

Then, it was Chase’s turn..

Later on Chase mad ea new friend

At the end of this short session it was nice to see them both tired yet happy

Portrait: Bubba and Bleu

I was lucky that C’s friends decided to buy her a portrait session, if not I would not have had the chance to meet Bubba and Bleu. I must admit I was quite excited to meet this breed for the first time. Not quite prepared for how sleek and pretty/handsome they looked too. It took me quite a bit to resist the urge to cat nap the pair

Bubba behaved more like a dog, following you around every where so long as you had a treat. He was also the more friendly and outgoing of the pair.

Of course the bow tie was necessary

Then it was Bleu’s turn to face the lens. A little shy at first she warmed up pretty fast..

Once quite relaxed she went into full on cam whoring =p

Humans have to touch up the make up, cats touch up on the fur.

Bleu touches up a spot that Bubba missed.

Of course there had to be some shots of both of them together

So now after seeing these picture I’m sure you will agree with me that it was quite amazing I didn’t cat nap them eh?

Portrait: Cookie and Baloo

These two dogs have plenty of stories to tell. Both of them rescue cases and one of them having travelled to three countries in his lifetime. While it is not surprising that they did have their little quirks ( this is why I am thankful for the pre-shoot consultation) , the session went great thanks to lots of bribery and hard work by Jo and Rod.

We tried to start by trying to burn off some excess energy. Which proved to be difficult for Baloo since she has some collie blood and therefore infinite energy.

Cookie on the other hand had hip issues and took things more leisurely..

We did manage to get him to do a few tricks too

Not to be upstaged, Baloo also showed us some feats of balance

We then had her settle down for her “beauty shots” Easier said than done as she did get bored pretty quickly..

Then it was Cookie’s turn. Much easier as he is REALLY motivated by treats

And of course we had to try to get them together..

I love her little head tilts..

The best part of the session happens when you get the “pawrents” together with the furkids…

Took quite a while to get her to come in. You can see Jo desperately trying to get her in while Rob is like “this is familiar”

While not perfect, I think this captures the relationship perfectly

Portrait: Husky and Zena

Two “siblings” about 8 years in age apart with two very different personalities. During our first meeting I was a little worried especially since it was clear that Zena (the younger one) really was painfully shy and would only respond well with some food and her Mommy. In the end we did the shoot using “Mommy” Karen as the live bait most of the time

We started out accompanying them on their morning walks

While Zena did get nervous around the lens, Husky was more than happy to pose if there were treats involved.

We then headed to another portion of the walk where there was a grassy field to run around in. Zena needed a little encouragement from her mom. Husky was at it like a pro.

But once she warmed up to the camera more it was quite easy to get her to relax (with treats)

Soon, we headed back to thier fav hangout cafe where they loved to chill after walks. (I think “Mom and Dad” needed the rest more )

I think these last two photos speak volumes for the phrase, like mother like daughter

Hope you enjoyed the pics. I think they were worth sweating out a Sunday morning for

A few more adoptable mutts I met last week at Mutts N Mittens! First was the quite shy but gentle Nancy. She did warm up to me fast though once I had treats.

Then there was the very eager to play and please Dogdog who also needs a better name =p

And then there was this lab look-a-like Otain

A recent shoot for this odd couple. An old cocker spaniel and relatively young westie Toto was up first…

She had a little help in posing for some shots..

Then it was Boy’s turn to work the camera..

Still looking might fabulous at 10

Despite their age difference, they do get along well.

And out of nowhere.. a rabbit! She is a bunny with attitude and a free run of the bedroom. Not very happy with me interrupting her snack time.

Oreo is your typical happy and enthusiastic mongrel

Then there is Tripod whose 3 legs don’t slow him down at all.

Then we have Bingo who puts all 4 legs to VERY good use. Still a little skittish with strangers though.

Dolly who is a little hyper and will need a firmer hand.. easily bribed though.

Then we have manja Betty who just came in not long ago. She has an accident before and now walks with a permanent limp. All you see when you meet her though is this happy grin as she runs up to meet you

Portrait: Chiokie

Senior dog sessions are always very special. More often than not, the dogs and their pawrents have some lovely tales of friendship and growing up. In Chiokie’s case, she suddenly appeared at the door of their grand mothers house, looking quite lost. Having no collar or microchip, they decided to adopt her! For the next 10 years, she has been their loyal companion and diligent guard dog despite her size. Recently though there was some sad news as Chiokie was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma, and her “mom” quickly scheduled a session before her health declined further.

When I first met her she was a little wary (her guard dog instinct kicking in) but soon warmed up once she got bribed with treats and tummy rubs

Majority of the tummy rubs came from her mom though.

One of her favourite things to do is to suntan…

Soon I tried to let her settle down and do her own posing, which she preferred to do on top of this cardboard box for some strange reason..

And of course the best shots are the candid moments between dog and pawrents

MnM: Tasha, Holly and Emma

There are many reasons not to buy pets from pet shops and one of the main reasons are Puppy Mills. While you might coo over how cute that puppy/kitten looks, you never know just what the parents of that puppy/kitten had to go through. The three ladies featured here today were rescued from that sad fate as breeding dogs and have since been re-rehabilitated .

First up is the very manja Tasha who is described as a “triple choc muffin with butterscotch swirls” . Loves to sit by your side and always eager for attention. I did have some trouble taking pics of her as she always wanted to be close by!

Then there is the dynamic duo of Holly and Emma, Despite having only two good eyes between them, they still know how to love and play. Its very amusing to watch them have a go at playing “tag” with each other.

Almost a Ceberus these two

Emma is the one with the bad eye but still knows how to wink and laugh. She is about 7 this year and is still looking for a home!

And Holly just has that perpetually happy face.

Flapper and Frodo: Test Shoot

I recently had a chance to meet and photograph a professional dog actor Flapper and his sibling Frodo. Flapper has starred in the local movie “My Dog Dou Dou” One of the main reasons why I had a chance to meet up was because we wanted to experiment a little more with how Flapper could potentially become a photographer too! Yeap this time instead of acting we wanted to see if he could be behind the camera as well.

While it was quite shaky and most of the view was of the grass it was quite fun!

I decided to try to capture his “party trick” of balancing a treat on his nose while standing on two legs before snapping it up on command.
