Nero - Puppy Power

Nero(pronounced NEver ROver) was found inside a styrofoam box out in the pouring rain. If it was not for the person who spotted him and brought him into the shelter he would have drowned in there. He has since recovered from that ordeal( despite passing out styrofoam for the first few days) and is now fully enjoying his puppyhood in the company of other dogs at the shelter.

He has an extremely dominant personality and so needs a very firm and patient hand to train. He dosent know his size and will attempt to make any dog submit when playing! Though in most cases he ends up on his back =p Needless to say I could not resist a photosession with him as he is just too full of personality.

Here he is playing with Dayna who tolerates quite a bit from him=p. As you can see her being a great dane doesn’t stop him from trying to get the upper hand.

But then of course she does put him in his place.. quite easily..

Enjoying the dehydrated cow stomach treat(which tastes surprisingly good actually..)

And my fav of the day. While he maybe a tough one to handle, is is still a bundle full of love!

It seems I’m shooting alot of senior dogs lately. I was actually hired to do event covrerage for an anniversary dinner but I did these quick portraits about 30mins before the event as a favour to commemorate Jay’s 17th birthday.

Noah’s Ark Visit October 2008

I had the opportunity to test out the new 50D for a weekend and what better way to do so than with a visit to Noah’s Ark! I was tagging along with a trip to deliver some supplies and of course some visitors who were very excited about going. The day started out well with a great lunch at Tian Lai at Gelang Patah, JB

Not long after we arrived at the entrance to the place and we began to unload the stuff. Mainly newspapers and food for the many animals that call the place their home.

For first time visitors it can be overwhelming but it certainly is quite an experience. Especially for kids.

Here we have jake with his ‘parents’ who are sponsoring him. The one beow was taken at ISO6400!. The one with his dad is OOF but i kept it anyway as the expression was too good to trash

Over the hills..

Well technically my client lives not over a hill but somewhere on it. I was given the oppertunity to photograph a few of her dogs one sunny afternoon. It was pretty daunting given the number of models I had to work with but it did turn out quite well in the end

Rosie - Typical cat wary of strangers… didnt look too happy about this =p

Nelson - a very handsome all black cat.

Elfie - sweet and very affectionate.

Micheal - did not like me and barked at me when i arrived but was happy to find me later when he realsed I had treats!

And my fav of the day.. both of them enjoying the back yard to the fullest!

Belle, Foxy, Porche

This set was taken before Max but I dint get round to uploading any till now =p. Pity the weather was kind of dull but it was a fun but tiring shoot. One of the rare times theres alot of indoor shots.

Porche, a little timid but warmed up quite quickly when outdoors.

The standard “queen-of-the-house pose”

Belle a very pretty little sheltie. Has her owner wrapped round her finger somewhat

The smaller they are the faster they seem to go…

I’d say she looks better than most models in those fashion mags

And Foxy who has the most unique markings on a corgi i’ve ever seen.

Corgis have kind of a comical run with those short legs. Still, they are fast and she managed to get to the ball before it reached me

This picture had the prviallage of being enlarged into a 18×12 lab print. While i’m not a fan of dog clothes, that red bandanna suits her fur very well. Again those markings are what strikes me the most.

And here I have an outtake! One of the many failed group shots that I kept. Belle is the only obedient one with Foxy hamming it up and Porche not yet warmed up.

Noah’s Ark 2009 Calendar Portraits

In a follow-up to my earlier post on the calendar, here are some of the portraits taken of the rescued/rehomed dogs.It was a long and tiring 3 days spent over 2 weekends traveling form door to door to take the portraits if these lucky few who have escaped the hard life of the streets/abuse/neglect.

88 - named as such because that was the amount they paid for him to be rescued. He was a pedigree that no one wanted and grew up in a cage so tiny that he learned to sleep standing up as he could not lie down. He now lives in a loving home with 2 other dogs whom he bosses around!

Waffles - She was found hiding under a lorry and had a bad limp. She was brought into the vet by a caregiver who was in the area to do another dog rescue. She has to have a pin inserted to help support her bones but she recovered nicely and is now bounding along with 88 Picture was taken when the pin was removed only a few days prior

Bear aka Eby - He was found in a factory where he was tied to a tree 24h a day. They rescued him when he was 2 months old and in a very bad shape. Despite the rough start he took to toilet training very fast and quickly learned to be spoilt

Bella - given up at age 3 due to her incessant barking form separation anxiety, she spent 2 years in the shelter before finding a permanent home. She is now a grand old 13 but still able to keep up with the many other dogs she lives with.

Lucky - Rescued form a cage exposed to the elements, he was skin and bones and suffered form a bad case of mange when rescued. He also had a parvo infection but his adopters visited him daily at the hospital. Right now he is enjoying his life as a very bouncy fox terrier!

TIlly - Initially kept for commercial breeding in less than ideal conditions she was one of the few rescued by the authorities from the illegal breeding farm. Noah’s Ark then helped find her a new home. Having a missing eye didn’t seem to deter her adoption chances though as she now lives happliy with a 9 year old as her best friend

Lighting - This boy was found tied to a pillar at the foot of some apartment blocks. Luckily some kind students noticed him and brought him food and water and called up Noah’s Ark for help. He now lives in a sprawling 2 story house with a nice big yard and a pool! Thats a real premium in Singapore where 80% of us live in apartments.

Lady and Prince - Found with a SEVERE maggot wound on her ear she was brought to the vet where it was feared that her ear would have to be removed. Form lots of love and care she made an incredible recovery to the girl she is now. The pictures are form when she had fully recovered and with her pup again. She is now the poster girl for their industrial dog projects. Andreana is a little girl with a big heart who donated all of her $8.20 savings after hearing about Lady’s plight. She really loves prince and has the privilege of being the only human on the calendar!

Noah’s Ark CARES 2009 Calender

As i posted earlier the 2009 calendar is finally out and I finally managed to get my hands on a copy. The design is the same as last year’s with each month featuring a rescued/re homed dog with his/her story printed on the back. Each picture can be torn out to be used as a post card as well

I’m pretty glad with the outcome this year and its also the first year that the photos are all my own. I’ve been unable to post any of the pics (taken since may!) cause they wanted to keep it a secret. Well now that its finally out I’ll start posting some pictures from the 200+ odd library I accumulated for them. Without futher ado here are some quck snaps of the calendar itself.
