It was founded by a man called Raymund Wee who quit his day job to do animal welfare work full time. The huge compound has a over 600 dogs and 300 cats with many of the dog free roaming.

Given the sheer number of animals, he would not be able to manage this alone and has a team of full time caretakers as well as numerous volunteers.

The dogs there tend to form thier own small packs and will hang about particular areas. Some of the dogs will follow their favorite volunteers (usualy those that rescued them) or thier fav caretakers.

Afew cases of species confusion. On the left we have Tumis. Tumis thinks he’s a cat but the cats think he is just a huge smelly furball

And here on the right we have Durian who thinks he is a Horse :O he has a stable next to the three horses that live there and enjoys running with them as well as eating, well, durians.

And then there was Jill who knew she was a dog but still loved the company of cats.

Some cats dont like the extra loving though..

Speaking of cats, there were various catteries of attention starved kitties all around.

Picture intensive so click the link below for the full post. It was a very hot day but the dogs certainly had a fun time socializing and sniffing around! I rented a 35/1.4 for the event just too see if its suitable for my shooting style (and to fully utilize the full frame sensor!) Here are quick snaps of some of the guests whom you might recognize from an earlier post

One special guest was a dog called Batman who is born with a nervous disorder that leaves him more or less unable to coordinate his limb movement. The end result is that he moves around by wiggling his body around.  His mom took care of him as a puppy and he is now 4. Tremendous amount of dedication there.

Here we have Goldie a very senoir dog who is almost blind. He still manged to have some fun though he liked to stake out the water bowl

And here he is demonstrating the wonderful bokeh of the 35/1.4 @1.8

And whats a party without food? Here is the spread of food for the dogs(except the cupcakes at the top) kindly sponsored by US Doggie Bakery. They specialize in making human-type food thats safe for your dogs to eat. Its also probably wayy healthier than commercial kibble since there are no preservatives or additives.

And of course a pink cake for the birthday girl

As you can see holly’s mom was so not expecting the double celebration.

That lady feeding holly happens to be the boss of US Doggie Bakery Holly is just interesting in that biscuit..

I had the opportunity to test out the new 50D for a weekend and what better way to do so than with a visit to Noah’s Ark! I was tagging along with a trip to deliver some supplies and of course some visitors who were very excited about going. The day started out well with a great lunch at Tian Lai at Gelang Patah, JB

Not long after we arrived at the entrance to the place and we began to unload the stuff. Mainly newspapers and food for the many animals that call the place their home.

For first time visitors it can be overwhelming but it certainly is quite an experience. Especially for kids.

Here we have jake with his ‘parents’ who are sponsoring him. The one beow was taken at ISO6400!. The one with his dad is OOF but i kept it anyway as the expression was too good to trash

88 – named as such because that was the amount they paid for him to be rescued. He was a pedigree that no one wanted and grew up in a cage so tiny that he learned to sleep standing up as he could not lie down. He now lives in a loving home with 2 other dogs whom he bosses around!

Waffles – She was found hiding under a lorry and had a bad limp. She was brought into the vet by a caregiver who was in the area to do another dog rescue. She has to have a pin inserted to help support her bones but she recovered nicely and is now bounding along with 88 Picture was taken when the pin was removed only a few days prior

Bear aka Eby – He was found in a factory where he was tied to a tree 24h a day. They rescued him when he was 2 months old and in a very bad shape. Despite the rough start he took to toilet training very fast and quickly learned to be spoilt

Bella – given up at age 3 due to her incessant barking form separation anxiety, she spent 2 years in the shelter before finding a permanent home. She is now a grand old 13 but still able to keep up with the many other dogs she lives with.

Lucky – Rescued form a cage exposed to the elements, he was skin and bones and suffered form a bad case of mange when rescued. He also had a parvo infection but his adopters visited him daily at the hospital. Right now he is enjoying his life as a very bouncy fox terrier!

TIlly – Initially kept for commercial breeding in less than ideal conditions she was one of the few rescued by the authorities from the illegal  breeding farm. Noah’s Ark then helped find her a new home. Having a missing eye didn’t seem to deter her adoption chances though as she now lives happliy with a 9 year old as her best friend

Lighting – This boy was found tied to a pillar at the foot of some apartment blocks. Luckily some kind students noticed him and brought him food and water and called up Noah’s Ark for help. He now lives in a sprawling 2 story house with a nice big yard and a pool! Thats a real premium in Singapore where 80% of us live in apartments.

Lady and Prince – Found with a SEVERE maggot wound on her ear she was brought to the vet where it was feared that her ear would have to be removed. Form lots of love and care she made an incredible recovery to the girl she is now. The pictures are form when she had fully recovered and with her pup again. She is now the poster girl for their industrial dog projects. Andreana is a little girl with a big heart who donated all of her $8.20 savings after hearing about Lady’s plight. She really loves prince and has the privilege of being the only human on the calendar!

I’m pretty glad with the outcome this year and its also the first year that the photos are all my own. I’ve been unable to post any of the pics (taken since may!) cause they wanted to keep it a secret. Well now that its finally out I’ll start posting some pictures from the 200+ odd library I accumulated for them. Without futher ado here are some quck snaps of the calendar itself.
