As some of you may remember I took a short holiday down under a few weeks back and posted on some of the dogs I met there. Just wanted to share some shots of the other animal I encountered while there as well!

New Gear – S90

Recently purchased a canon S90 and what better way to test it than to photograph some dogs!

Nerus being his usual playful self

And of course we have to take some puppies! (more in a later post)

Images were taken at a range of ISO800 to ISO1600 and I must say for a tiny compact its pretty impressive The 28mm f/2 is certainly a big plus as is the RAW capabilities. Will definitely be playing with it alot more.

Dorian and Faye: Caturday II

I spent the last weekend photographing my friend’s 2 growing dustballs. They are nearing their full adult size soon but still have their kittenish playfulness about them.

One rare occasion where I could get both of them together, quietly…

A quick lesson in perspective courtesy of Faye.. 24 mm vs 85mm; notice how the wide angle exaggerates the nose-to-ear distance. While it works well for animal portraits, humans might be a bit touchier when they look ‘weirder’.

Dorian always seems to have this evil, plotting face that makes you think he is planning to kill you at some point…

I wonder how my friend sleeps at night…

But truth be told, he is still a big softie.

And while Faye is not the most glamorous of ladies…

She is undoubtedly still irresistibly cute.

Not to be confused with the other famous blogging doggy at kingsleydog.com I met him while he was out in the run having a little game of fetch.

Border collies + action are just too hard to resist for a photo op.

Tried to grab some jump shots but it all ended up like

When the time came for him to get back to the kennel he just lay there out in the field waiting for the ball to be thrown again!

Running and border collies really seem to go well together. This is also my fav shot from that short session.

MuttsNMittens – Master Chow

Its been quite awhile since I had the time to head down over to MuttsNMittens to help photograph some adoptable. I decided to have a session with the very furry Master Chow. He was much neglected as a breeding dog and was subsequently rescued with his mom (who has since found a new home!) He is still pretty shy around people(especially males) still which is not surprising given how much he was abused. Its amazing how much better he is now thanks to the efforts and care of the shelter staff and volunteers. When he arrived he was malnourished and had almost no fur on him, but now…

He definitely recovered well and saved from that awful breeder, live life as a dog should

Of course the trademark of a chow is thier purple tongue!

Caturday: Dorian and Faye

I had a chance to visit those 2 adorable kittens again and my how much they have grown since our last encounter! Still amazingly fluffy, they have gotten alot more curious and playful.. I think I will let the pictures do the talking..

Dorian is certainly a handsome chap..

And Faye is a little tigress!

They kinda play nice together…

But faye really goes at it with gusto and speed. Ended up with alot of missed shots like the following… Supercat on the right

After a few tries I finally managed to get a few decent ones.

Dorain on the other paw was a much more calulative one, choosing only to strike when he knows he can get it.

Its been awhile since I’ve had some cats on here so lets break the drought with some kittens! These 2 adorable fellas were at MuttsNMittens and are still availabl for adoption. No names yet though. Lets let the pictures do the talking eh?

Max: Its’ A Dog’s Life

Turns out that it can be a pretty good life if you are a dog, certainly helps if your ‘parents’ love you to bits too

Max’s shoot was postponed about 3 times due to a combination of unpredictable weather and the extremely busy schedules of his parents who only could make it at specific times. On the day where it finally cleared up a little for us to shoot at the Botanical Gardens, it decided to rain about 1 hour into it cutting our time there a little short. Moving back to his house was not a bad idea though as there were many interesting locations about the house.

We started the day in the lush open fields of the Botanical Gardens with some cloud cover which soon progressed into a drizzle. Not before I got Max all nice and worked up for a few action shots.

On the drive back to his territory he promptly zonked out and changed the CD track to “Home by Micheal Buble”. Might not be a co-incidence heh..

We then went up to his room. He has the most awesome ‘bed’ which was recycled from an old office chair I believe.

Not to mention tons of toys

Soon we moved on to the couch outside…he can be quite a goofball at times too..

I had a very fun photo shoot with Pebbie last weekend. This shoot has 2 firsts for me, its shot at a new location and its the first one with my ‘new’ (third hand =p ) 5D. The park has nice open fields and the evening sun was quite cooperative for the most part. Pebbie was also quite the poser so long as theres either food or a secret weapon (more on that later) I hope that her parents enjoyed their time as much as I did photographing her.

Cocker Spaniels have thier tails docked but hers was cut a little too much and well her butt literally wiggles since theres no stump to wag.. Not that I was staring at her handquaters…

After all that acitvity she finally showed some signs of tiring out

And finally the proper portraits. The 85/1.8 is simply stunning on a 5D. Am am itching to try out a 135/2 soon though

And the money shot (IMO) and personal fav of the session. It was a close tie between this and the Nose one.

Ginger kittens at Mutts N Mittens

I had a quick pop by MuttsNMittens after learning that there were some new kittens up for adoption. As I only spent a short time there I only manged to capture 2 of them. Still I think its more than enough cuteness for one day.

Well if you are wondering how to get kittens to pose on command I will share a small tip. Its called a rubber band

I had help from a good friend to play with the kittens using said rubber band. The hard part was getting the timing right because they have a really short attention span and wont sit still for long.

Alllmost got it. I know some of you cant resist fat kitten bellies =p
